Europe Stroke Capability Map

Explore source-attributed stroke capabilities across 45 country entries. These provisional records await local review; 26 lists are partial. Dates and evidence remain attached to each record.

An independent EUROSTROKES mapping project. Country data await review by local colleagues.

Stroke treatment capability as listed by the cited public source on the read date. Not real-time availability, not for patients or ambulance routing. “Not listed” means absent from a list that claims to be complete, not that the treatment is unavailable. Quotes are in the source language; English renderings are model translations.

Country by country

Click a row to open the country. Counts are sites where a source states the capability. Reproducibility comes from a separate AI research pass over a sample. Masking relied on instructions rather than technical isolation, and human country review is pending. Agreement is reported only where at least five findings were confirmed from an independent source.

How the map was built

Sources, best first

Health ministry and regional designation lists, decrees and network plans come first. National certification bodies and stroke-society registries come next, then the ESO certification database. Hospital sites and peer-reviewed national surveys fill the gaps. News and aggregators only point to candidates; they never set a value.

Source quotations

A yes or no needs a source excerpt of 40 words or fewer from the source. That sentence is checked mechanically against the fetched page or PDF. The run recorded 9,055 successful text matches and 194 image-transcribed items that could not be checked mechanically. These are extraction checks, not confirmation by local clinicians.

What “no” means

Sources rarely say a hospital does not treat. A site is shown as “not listed” only when it is absent from an official list whose own text claims to cover the whole country or region. Everywhere else the value stays unknown.

What the map does not show

It shows no opening hours, rotas, on-call status or live service status, and has no separate fields for beds, volumes, outcomes or named persons. Where a source sentence includes service availability or timing information, the quote is withheld and only the source is linked. Capability, recognition and certification remain distinct from clinical availability.
